Yesterday, my friend (who lives abroad) asked me "Rihab, How much a beer costs you in an average bar in Beirut?" I didn't understand what he was aiming for until he showed me this article.
In Lebanon, the minimum wage is 675000 LL and the average price of beer in a bar is around 12000 LL this gives us 56 beers.
Comparing this number to the purchasing power of some European countries like Germany (521), Spain (388), France (248) etc...We see the huge difference!!
Change is needed urgently.

hello,
ReplyDeletekindly note that if you using the same source of data as the guys that did this study used, you should refer to the www.pintprice.com for the beer price which is $2.57 for Lebanon, and that makes it 175 beers per month and not 56 with the minimum wage per month being $450 as per the same source of data used by the original study http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_minimum_wages_by_country
with regards and peace,
B
Hi,
DeleteWe totally agree. We should have used this same source, but we find that 2.5$ is an under-evaluated price so we used 12000 as an average value.
175 beers is still a small number while comparing it to other European Countries.
Thank you very much for your comment :)
Rihab
i'm leaving to Germany!
ReplyDeleteHaha...521 beers will make you drunk :P
