When 31-year-old Nafis Joon agreed on touring Facebook headquarters on June 23, 2014 with her boyfriend, 32-year-old Steve Kawalit, she had no idea that that he wanted to propose to her, with the blessings of Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg and COO Sheryl Sandberg.
Everything started in 2007, when Nafis Joon, a dentist, received a poke from Steve, a digital marketing manager, who was a total stranger to her. After responding positively, Nafis and Steve began chatting online, and then moved to meeting in person in Toronto where they both live. Since then, things became more serious than just a poke.
So it was kind of “logical” for Steve to propose to Nafis at Facebook’s headquarters since this social media engine was the catalyst of their relationship.

The proposal moment

Nafis and Steve were very discrete about how they met since it would sound kind of awkward to their entourage. But nowadays online dating leading to more serious relationships has become a fundamental part of a busy and fast life. We can’t but think about how the Internet and social media engines have affected our lives and our relationships. Is it a bad or a good thing? There is no rule that would determine it. Whether you go for the “old live” dating or choose online dating, it’s your commitment that defines your relationship.

The proposal is available on video, on Nafis Joon’s personal FB account. To watch it click here.

The internet users woke up today to find many urgent invitations to report a page: עד שהנערים חוזרים - בכל שעה במחבל יורים (Until the boys are back, every hour we shoot a terrorist). What is it about?

This page encourages people to execute Palestinians – called “terrorists” by the page owners and admins – until 3 Israeli boys get home:  Naftali Frankel, Eyal Yifrah (both 16) and Gilad Shaer (19). By posting pictures of their targets, the page pushes its fans to settle things the archaic way: an eye for an eye.

The shameful page, liked by almost 18 971 people driven by hatred and revenge, is being reported and criticized by many Facebook users who considered it: a “despicable murdering scum”, an “absolutely despicable Neo-Nazi behavior”, a “vile Facebook page”, a sign of “apartheid, genocide, occupation”, etc.

Until now, despite all the efforts to report the page, Facebook hasn’t found that it “violates (its) community standards” and therefore have declined all reports by users as demonstrated in the picture below:

Facebook has a long history in shutting down pages related to the Palestinian resistance. In 2011, the Third Intifada Facebook page was closed down because “after the publicity of the page, more comments deteriorated to direct calls for violence”, according to one of Facebook’s manager. But the current form of clear online apartheid that points fingers to accurate targets, by posting their names, faces and addresses doesn't seem to bother or worry Facebook nor its managers about its reprehensible consequences.

On Friday, CIA joined Facebook and Twitter!

In its first tweet, the CIA said "We can neither confirm nor deny that this is our first tweet."

One of twitter users replied "@CIA how does it feel to be followed for once?"

This is hilarious, who thought CIA has a sense of humor!

“Every time you face failure, remember the 9 publishers who turned harry potter down.” I used to laugh at this saying.
But now I guess we have to change it to: “every time you face failure, remember that Facebook turned Brian Acton down.”
After being refused by both Twitter and Facebook, Brian Acton worked with one of his colleagues on a cellphone application that turned out to be “Whatsapp” and today he sold his company to Facebook for 19 billion dollars.
Never give up on your dreams or let a “NO” holds you back because you are only confined by the walls your built yourself.
