Spy 3.5/5
They say that “Laughing is, and will always be, the best form of therapy”. Indeed, the health benefits of laughter are numerous and Spy will provide you a decent deal of it.
The movie follows the story of Susan Cooper (Melissa McCarthy), a forty years old desperate, uncharismatic and overshadowed woman who works as a CIA desk agent whose important work is always unappreciated by her supervisor and who will volunteer to do a very dangerous field job that will unleash all her James Bond abilities.
Comedy mixed with action is not an original idea, neither are the situations that will occur in the story, yet this movie succeeds in taking the best of the clichés and what was presented before by other comedies, mix it with a strong cast and light text to present something, witty, funny and verging on the border of stereotyping without falling completely in it.
The actors Melissa McCarthy, Jude Law, Rose Byrn and surprisingly Jason Statham are a good combination and each of them knew how to push his character just to the limit without any unnecessary exaggeration.
Spy is now showing in Lebanese cinemas, take some time off of your worries and stress, watch it and have some good laughs.
